The ECRI has only declined at this speed 5 times before. This speed of decline has typically forecast a recession. It doesn’t have to end in recession – after all, we’re coming off a speedy rebound. But like an airplane after initial takeoff, we’ll probably feel like we’re slowing down simply because we’re no longer accelerating at the same rate.
