Declines in the ECRI weekly leading indicator, particularly of this magnitude, have typically foretold recession. Is this time different? While the bulls argue it is, the bears lean on history to prove their thesis. Historically, an ECRI change reading this negative (last update was -9.1%) has consistently indicated a recession was near or had already started.
