Turn off your TV for a second. Cut out the noise from the marketers out there trying to position their products and companies as environmentally friendly (eco-this and green-that). To be honest, it’s all a bunch of unregulated fluff.

Sure, my cell phone is made from 2% recycled materials. But maybe it always was. Maybe the other 98% is destroying the coral reefs. It makes us feel like we’re doing something positive when we buy a hybrid…when what we should really do is take the bus.

What we don’t see won’t hurt us, right?

Unfortunately, global energy demand will grow for the foreseeable future:

…world primary energy demand is projected to increase by 40% between 2007 and 2030, representing an average annual growth rate of 1,5%, in the International Energy Agency (IEA) 2009 World Energy Outlook reference scenario.

More than 3/4 of this energy demand will come from fossil fuels. That doesn’t sound very ‘green’ to me.

Worst of all, “coal is expected to be the fastest growing fuel and is projected to account for 29% of world primary energy demand in 2030″.
